Man shoots ankle, beats man for walking dog on golf course

A 74-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he shot a rifle in the ankle and beat another who was walking his dog on a golf course.

As WPBF News reports, Herbert Merritt was walking his dog along Kings Point Golf Club in Delray Beach, Florida.

According to Merritt’s statement to the police, he suddenly saw Robert Levine, a 74-year-old man, arrive in a cart near him.

Levine allegedly started yelling at Merritt because his dog was in the field. When Merritt wanted to leave the place, Levine chased him, pulled out a gun and fired five bullets at him. A projectile hit him in the ankle. The assailant then approached him to beat him with golf clubs.

Witnesses immediately telephoned the police who quickly subdued Robert Levine. They found a semi-automatic revolver in his possession as well as two sticks with traces of blood.

Merritt was rushed to hospital where his life would not be in danger.
