More expensive kebabs due to the shortage of raw materials

The war in Ukraine has caused a sharp rise in the prices of several raw materials used in the food industry, including sunflower oil. This product is becoming rare and prices are increasing for individuals and professionals with concrete consequences. Like the increase in the price of kebabs, noted in particular in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales).

More expensive oil, bread and meat

The manager of a restaurant serving these specialties explained to The Independent

pay 40 euros for a 10 liter can of oil usually costing half that. Even at the price, the liquid so important to restaurateurs is increasingly difficult to find. Salad, meat and bread are also affected by the phenomenon.

The professional mentioned an increase of 2 euros per kilo of meat and batches of patties to 18.50 euros instead of 11.50 euros. To maintain their activity, restaurateurs must now sell their kebabs between 0.5 and 1 euro more expensive and are considering removing fries from the menu.
