UK. Tenant marries her cat to circumvent pet ban

Its owners did not want pets in their home. So, to get around this ban, Deborah Hodge decided to marry her cat India, reports the New York Post.

Behind this slightly crazy story, there is that of this 49-year-old Londoner, a single mother of two children and threatened with expulsion.

To prove her seriousness, she married her pet and even went so far as to organize a ceremony last Tuesday in a park in the British capital.

“I had nothing to lose and everything to gain so I married my cat! “Simply declared the forties to the American newspaper. “I refuse to part with him. I’d rather live on the streets than be without him,” she added.

Already separated from her two dogs

And for good reason, this woman does not want for anything in the world to relive once again a separation with her animals that she loves so much. Indeed, in the past, she had been forced to part with her two huskies after her owner at the time threatened her with eviction.

Today, she “doesn’t want to lose another beloved pet. I swore to love him in sickness as in health until death do us part, and I meant it, ”she said, recalling that her animals “are part of the family” and that “it was absolutely devastating to have to say goodbye to them”.

And then, out of the question to leave India, who needs her since, two years ago, the poor feline had to have a leg amputated after being hit by a car. So, even if her friends consider her “crazy”, Deborah Hodge felt that uniting with her three-legged cat was the best way to show that she was “serious”. She therefore hopes that this union will save her from expulsion. Especially since she confesses that since she lost her job in March, it’s become more and more difficult to pay the rent…
